Shed Wars
« on: May 05, 2015, 09:56:55 PM »
I just saw an ad for a new show on the Outdoor channel, it's called "Shed Wars" and it airs on May 21st.  I think it is filmed in Colorado.  My guess is shed hunting is going to get even more popular.
Pain is temporary, achieving the goal is worth it.

I didn't say it would be easy, I said it would be worth it.

That's gonna put a damper on the amount of sheds we find in the woods

I am so sick of all these "wars" shows. Shed wars, cupcake wars, storage wars... good grief! Give me a break

I wouldn't worry too much fellas. Most people are too lazy to shed hunt with effectiveness.

I sure am glad I got to experience "the good old days" with regards to shed hunting.   The popularity has gotten out of control in the last 20 years.

Right, but if only 5% are motivated, hard-core, effective shed hunters to begin with; increasing the overall shed crowd will increase what makes up that 5%.

Just finished watching it. I wish I knew where they were selling the sheds. I would be rich (According to TV ) Matched set mules for $600-$7000. Single brown for $12-$24 a pound

I haven't seen the show. I did spend a few days up in the White Mountains this spring before an unexpected event required me to return home early. In the short time I got to poke around for elk sheds, I ran into four shed hunters, and 0 sheds. One gentlemen in his 70s said he had already earned $1,500 by selling sheds year to date. Just by walking around. Word on the street was that Arizona elk sheds are $18 a pound. I found a half dozen on my hunt last year, and by that time all had turned white and were worth a lot less to me than if they were fresh brown. I'd rather them go to use to those who are willing to hike their ass off for them at 9,000+ feet than just to go to waste turning white and chalky.  :twocents:

Remember duck hunting got real popular for about 2 months.

And then the late (cold) season came.

Last time I was in Arizona, I heard sheds were going for 12 - 15 dollars a lb.   If you have a trailer you can haul them to the buyers.  I think they will come to Washington if it was profitable.

I am pretty sure it is just as fake as every other reality show out there. Take the Grendas for example who hunt the northern panhandle of idaho and it is rolling grasslands. I've been to the panhandle a time or two never seen the part where it is just rolling grasslands, got to thinking maybe it was the Palouse then the lady had to sleep out all night cause her wheeler died and she said it is grizzly country. Something doesn't add up

You forgot to mention that after she spent the night, it took her until dark to get to her truck. Come on! Her husband would have been looking for her by then!

It's nothing more than a bunch of hype, a movie for those who are easily entertained. The scenes are staged for the most part and like many of you commented what they say doesn't add up. Any seasoned shed hunter will know its fake but for the many others who don't know better will be sucked in and impressed. Its sad, disappointing and frustrating watching the great outdoors turn into a commercialized scam. I'd be to embarrassed to behave like they do on a national TV show to be on the program.

I have wondered the same thing.  I'm thinking it's gotta be between Lewiston to Grangeville area.  But I have never heard that called grizzly country.

Lol wow I watched this yesterday and thought the same thing. Hike all day and don't get back till dark? If you hike 3 miles an hour which is easily doable with no heavy pack, and hike for 10 hours, that's 30 miles. Ya right....
