Not to hijack the thread, I think its great you guys can get together and treat the kid to a hunt or 2.
Can an exchange student own or possess a firearm? If not how do you get around I-594, would it be legal to let him use one of your shotguns on a hunt?

You can let someone use your shotgun if you are out in the field and they are present.  Techinically you couldn't just provide him with a shotgun and he takes off hunting on his own.
With him also do the differed hunter ed, he has to always accompany someone.  Who every he is with, will have to loan him a shotgun unless he brought one of his own.  But I am not sure what stipulation accompany foreign exchange students on buy or bring firearms to various locations.

It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!

I think this is awesome and would totally help out. I just have one word of warning and it is that I believe NW-GSP has to be at the hunt for johhanes_from to legally hunt since you signed the paperwork for the hunter safety program. At least that is how read how it worked. I hope he gets out and you can share some of the success here. Good luck guys!

As an accompanying hunter you must be at least 18 years of age. In addition, you must have had a valid Washington hunting license for each of the previous three (3) years. Be sure to include your WILD identification number. Applications will not be processed without the WILD number.

Remember that you are required to provide direct supervision over the deferred hunter. You must remain within normal voice and vision communication at all times.

Take your new responsibility as an accompanying hunter seriously!

If either a deferred licensee or the accompanying hunter is convicted of a fish and wildlife violation, the Department of Fish and Wildlife may revoke all hunting licenses and tags of one or both the deferred license and the accompanying hunter

RCW 9.41.175

Alien possession of firearms—Possession without license—Conditions.

(b) If required under federal law, an approved United States department of justice ATF-6 NIA application and permit for temporary importation of firearms and ammunition by nonimmigrant aliens; and

(c)(i) A valid hunting license issued by a state or territory of the United States; or

(ii) An invitation to participate in a trade show or sport shooting event being conducted in this state, another state, or another country that is contiguous with this state.

(2) A citizen of Canada may carry or possess any firearm so long as he or she possesses:

(a) Valid documentation as required for entry into the United States;

(3) For purposes of subsections (1) and (2) of this section, the firearms may only be possessed for the purpose of using them in the hunting of game while such persons are in the act of hunting, or while on a hunting trip, or while such persons are competing in a bona fide trap or skeet shoot or any other organized contest where rifles, pistols, or shotguns are used. Nothing in this section shall be construed to allow aliens to hunt or fish in this state without first having obtained a regular hunting or fishing license.

Hello everybody  :hello:

This is pretty cool!! People around here are very accommodating and helpfull!!
As NW-GSP wrote we got the paperwork signed and now the only thing left should be to get it to the wildlife department :)
It's awesome to see that there is so many people willing to help!! I'm pretty sure that I will have a car in a few weeks so that i can get up there :IBCOOL: As somebody wrote on this topic... NW-GSP who signed the differed application has to be there for me to hunt. But it seems like there are a few guys who would like to join on a hunt and i think that's awesome!!! For me it's not important to shoot a lot of birds! It's more about getting to meet people who hunt in this area (and hopefully shoot some birds with them ;) )

Thanks again!

Right wing shooter, I aim for the left!!!

Nowhere in your incoherent rambling did you come close to what can be considered a rational thought. Everyone is now dumber having heard it. I award you no points and may God have mercy on your soul.

I could be wrong but I believe that part of the law only applies to licensed gun/shooting clubs. Not hunting wild game in the field.

Johannes and I went out duck hunting this morning and had a great time. We ended up with three teal, the ducks just did not seem to want to decoy. He is very safe with firearms and hope some other members  will be able to get him out hunting also.
