12 guage turkey chokes?
« on: March 10, 2016, 11:37:09 AM »
Hey I have a browning 12 gauge pump action with a full choke and I've used it for turkey hunting the last few years and it gets the job done.  I'm looking into getting a turkey choke for it for that tighter pattern at longer distance.  Any help, tips, or advice I get will be helpful.

Thank you

This xxx full choke will dust em at 45 yards. You want a tight pattern than here is my recommendation.

Look at Carlson chokes.

You can get a specific choke for your gun with a specific turkey load. Check it out.

Regardless of what choke you chose, I would recommend pattern checking a few different loads threw it. Its amazing how much they will differ. 45 yds is very do-able tho!

The constriction # on chokes is that how tight it is as in .570 is how tight it is or is that how much it constricts from the standard bore size?
Hope that question made sense.
  I mean what is tighter
  Jelly head at .570
  Zinks .655

And remember you "CAN" get your pattern too tight and be throwing a baseball at shorter ranges test from 20 40 yards!

 :yeah: :yeah: :yeah: :yeah: :yeah:

I've shot more turkeys inside 20 yards than beyond 20 yards, but that might just be me.

For my purposes, a full choke is just fine.

I actually hut turkeys with my O/U, full over modified.

Inside 20 yards, I'll pick the modified chamber.......   if I have my wits about me.

I use the Jellymon on my 870 with 3" shells and it does amazing.  I did have to pattern a few different loads to find the the one that worked best....and there was a huge difference in shells.

The turkey I have shot with a shotgun in the past had been with nickel plated #5.  So when I got my Jellyhead choke I ran right out and shot nickel lead #5's.  I was terribly disappointed!  Then I shot some  Heavy Shot and started to get excited.  Finally a friend gave me a box of Heavy Metal Magnum blend and I was blown away!  Thing is crazy good with the right shot.
He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."
