Who has the itch for some Rockchuck [Graphic Images]
« on: January 30, 2009, 10:08:03 PM »
I can't wait for this weather to break. Mid February is time to break out the long range rifles and the AR's and whack some Rockchcuks. I have several properties I hunt where the owners want them gone and dead(Orchards). So I put it to them before they can have their young. Here in Wenatchee they always come out about mid February, my personal best is 176 in a spring/summer. I am a Chuck addict!

These are a couple photo's from this last spring/summer...

A couple out of the cherry orchard with the M4..

This is the before shot, through the spotting scope.

This is the during shot at 14X, of coarse the carbine on the hood for photo purposes only

The after math :'(

.223 Rem700 SPS and a 50gr Nosler Ballistic Tip.

.270 Winchester and a 110gr Hornady V-max.

Bonus yote on the trip with a Rem700 .375 Ultra Mag/ 260gr Accubond and 375 yards.

A good friend of mine getting ready to take a shot at a Chuck at 1262 yards with his RD custom Tactical in 7mm WSM. Missed low by 4 inches. The spatter blew the chuck off the rock but when we went to confirm the kill we only found a couple little specks of blood from where the bullet disintegrated. So much for the longest shot of the year. :) Without a body it doesn't count. :chuckle:

Never shot chucks with the .204, I can't wait to though. I just built a AR15 in .204 for my younger brother this last fall, shot it a bit and it is a LAZER!. He is going to use it this spring for Chucks.

just barely had enough gun for that yote huh.

Oh yea. ;)  The first picture above was the entrance side. I shot him from behind quartering away, the exit on the off side was right in the pocket. his heart was gone! Hanging somewhere in the sage. :chuckle:

Nice pics I love the gore.  Thinking exactly the same thing today.  Just tried to get some more R22 for my 7STW to get some 120's loaded up.  Instead started on a batch of 500 22-250's with 55BT at 3600.  Of course the powder was out of stock, but a case is supposed to be in next week.  That thing will flat launch them, and you don't have any body left to photo.   120 Ballistic Tip at 3600 will do complete 1.5's aat 900, and triples easily at anything under 400.  No rock needed.

" NO ROCK NEEDED " Only a true destroyer of Chucks would understand that :) Love it!

Anywhere from 3-10 sometimes more, It's all about the weather, the grass and the sun. When the temp hits 100 it is all but over for the year. Some here and there, my personal best was 23 in about 20 minutes. That time I was shooting a Rem700 Sendero in .300 Win Mag with a Vais Arms muzzle brake, recoil was less than a .243. Let's just say on 20 power I could stay on my hits easily from about 80 yards out. I was running my favorite Chuck load which was a 180gr Nosler Ballistic Tip on top of 73gr of RL-19. A thunder cell had moved in while I was driving to my spot and it was raining like you wouldn't believe when I got there not a Chuck to be seen.

As soon as the cell blew through the sun was bright and those little beautiful fuzzy Ba^%$ds came out from everywhere! I set up and went to town, I knew I was abusing the barrel but since I had close to 2000 rounds on it already. I just smiled and keep whacking chucks, thinking to myself she's(The barrel) is pretty much about done any ways so let's finish her of with a bang. that barrel was smokin when I finished :IBCOOL:. There were grounghogs splattered everywhere! I was in HEAVEN, I'll tell you what the hits were spectacular. Total aerials, I was sending chucks into orbit like the Apollo moon shot :) that rifle easily killed 500-600 chucks during the years I shot with it. I miss than damn rifle :(
