congrats machias...i'm sure you'll keep us in touch with the progress of your hunt.
is it for 1 lion only or do you hunt till the quota is met or how's it work?

Season opens 1 Dec and runs until 31 Mar 2008.  I am allowed up to 2 lions, but only 1 before 15 Jan.  If the quota of 15 females and or 35 males has not been filled then I can take a second lion after the 15th of Jan.  Once the quota is filled then it is pursuit only till 31 Mar.  All lions taken in Stevens/Pend Oreille from 1 Sep to 30 Nov count towards the quota.  Last year when the hound season opened there were only 8 females left and something like 28 or 29 toms left.  The harvest season was closed a couple of days after Christmas last year with 19 toms still available.  So if guys just hold off and stop shooting sub adult lions be it female or male then guys would have most of the winter to put their tag on a toad.  Most of the cats killed early in the season are young and/or female cats.  I am allowed to take up to three individuals with me on a hunt.

Standard price is $2,100 for a life size.  That comes with a standard base.

As of right now I have no pictures of Cats.  Lost most of my pictures in the move.  Most of my experiance is with Bobcats.  Cougar and bobcats are about as equally difficult to make look good.  Thats why I suggest taking lots of pictures of your cat.  That way I can gauge how your cat is built.  I also use plenty of referance photos of live cats.  I use live animal referance photos when mounting any kind of animal....

There probably arent many big cats left up there, seems that everyone is harvesting mainly females and young males, never really any large toms...mainly because they dont have time to establish a home range within the first year they immigrate into the area then they get shot.  I'm sure there are a couple still left up there though.

I am from the west side.  Might need some dogs.  I think my dog deal might not pan out.  So if it does not work I will need to find some help.  Or just eat the tag.  Any ideas would be great  Thanks Jack

Well, I hesitate to answer this because I'm gonna sound like a jerk, don't mean to, but here goes.  Jack did you already sign your sworn affidavit that you own dogs that can bay and tree lions?  If so and you don't have dogs you probably should send your permit back in, you get your preference points back and they will issue your tag to someone with dogs.

Sorry if my post came across as trying to scam the system.  I do own dogs.  Not afraid to admit that I am fairly new the the game and am not the best yet. I am lucky to have a friends help which has lots of experence  He  has a medical issue that might not let him go.  So to make a long story short I was looking for some help If he is not able to go.  Because it is a long trip for me. I would also not be afraid to turn in my tag if I dont go.  I would rather have someone else have a chance to get one than just eat my tag.  So sorry I was just trying to do what I thought was fair for other hunters

hey machias, I totally AGREE with you Fred, I am already complaint, becasue there is almost around 2,000 applied for five county, I DONT think whole 2,000 own any finished hounds. AFTER we all worked so hard to train and build those hounds to be good hunter, and  This was BS!  anyway what a waste!   :bash:
I am sorry for who ever own hounds that didnt get any draw! dont worry I didnt get any luck for four years! GEEZ...  :'( I hope next year will be good for you all. keep chase.... :)

Jackjr, I apologize for jumping to conclusions.  If you have young dogs and need some help I would be more then happy to help you out.  Do you have a snowmobile?  Without one you will be quickly locked out of most areas by the snows.  Again I apologize, if your still interested in some assistance, let me know.

Coonhound those numbers are a little misleading.  There was about 500 folks who put in for all four units, so not so bad, about 500 folks TOTAL applied for the permits.  Probably a little high, I would imagine there are 200-250 houndsmen in this state.  Quite a few of thoise are multiple members from the same household applying.

CAN'T BELIEVE THAT THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE THAT PUT IN FOR THESE PERMITST HAVE HOUNDS IN THIS STATE.  tHE dEPT. NEEDS TO COME UP WITH A BETTER FILTERING SYSTEM. THESE PERMITS ARE FOR THOSE PEOPLE THAT HAVE HOUNDS AND WE SHOULD ALL GET A PERMIT EVERY YEAR BY MY COUNT. HAPPY FOR THOSE WITH A DOG THAT GOT DRAWN AND EVEN HAPPIER FOR THOSE THAT DON'T HAVE HOUNDS AND DIDN'T GET DRAWN.
