Columbia/Snake Steelhead?
« on: November 28, 2016, 07:58:03 AM »
Anyone having much success with steelhead?  I've managed to get a couple above McNary but haven't seen that many fish caught, and haven't talked with anyone that is getting them regularly.

The water temp is around 51 and there are plenty of fish there. They just don't seem to be biting regularly.  Think they feasted so much on shad fry on the way upriver they aren't feeding much yet?  I'm confident the bite will have to eventually turn on.  They don't spawn until spring. I've talked with folks that have been trying all variety of shrimp, trolled very slowly under a bobber, some on a jig, anchored, etc with no luck. Seems the same with most trollers.  We have trolled all sorts of colors of wiggle warts, wee warts, mag warts, Brad's (including lit), etc, with only a few takers.  The fish we have caught weren't where there were large groups of fish stacked up and were where the fish were a bit more scattered.

Going to try night fishing for them this week.

Landed a nice 31" keeper on Thanksgiving day above mcnary. Small rockdancer seems to be the ticket, they aren't chasing the big ones nearly as hard, still been pretty slow though.

Anybody hit the water this weekend? Observations if you did. Was thinking about going today but I dont feel like sitting in the rain/wind. Maybe I'll go Wednesday if the weather is decent

Went above Ice Harbor this afternoon with the boat and pulled  plugs for a few hours. Nothing, no bites or fish. Talked to 3 guys in a boat loading up at the launch who said they got 1. Never saw any caught.

Eh...I'll try again after late archery is over, but I never do much good above Ice harbor.

Mmmmm ,,,, steelhead , only thing that keeps me from them is ,,, I'm not very good at intricate planning anymore , it's like just meet me under the sky somewhere and b alive with me , heck maybe we will hook one of those tasty critters , last time I went after steely , I ended up fishing for my car keys that my son thought need to be washed for some reason , happy to say I got my keys back and hooked a 7puonder and drove home counting my blessings that day forSURE !!
loction location location ! perzackly !
