Need eyes in the Tri cities area
« on: December 02, 2016, 02:36:45 PM »
Would anyone in the Tri-cities area care to give me updates on the Mcnary refuge water situation.
I have a reservation on Dec 31.
Would like to know if it's frozen up before I commit to making the trip over.

Send me a PM about it around your go/no go time and I'll go put my eyes on it. Hasn't been cold enough to cause any freezing yet.

Was just there, it is not iced over yet.  I live really really close to it.

Yeah, we've only had frost a morning or two this season. Been hunting in short sleeves and no lower body insulation. Might get a little ice next week, but water temps are still warm.

Had a draw for last Sunday.
We hunted the peninsula unit fri and sat, then the refuge on sunday.
Went home with 14 birds.

Thanx for all the help.

Hunted the Penn. unit today.
The wind was brutal. Shot 3 ducks.
Heard the most sorry excuse for as duck call today. Even scared the coot.
We had to come out early , cause momma got a flat. So we fixed it and headed back home.

I believe Friday night its predicted to get to -1 or so. You can pretty much kiss any open water goodbye. Now on the other hand you have about 6 or seven dozen goose sleeper shells you might have a good hunt on the ice.

I will say the Tri Cities is covered up with lots of ducks and geese. But most everyone around knows that by now and with the low temps that area is going to be the best odds, and you'll have lots of company with school breaks so get to where you want to hunt and get there early like by 1am.

McNary will typically have a few blinds that will stay open or be last to freeze, 18 and 22. A scouting trip may find you another blind that hasn't iced up but with these temps I wouldn't get your hopes up.

We had to break threw 4" of ice last week on Wednesday.  It hasn't been above freezing much.  It was plenty thick enough then to walk on.  I bet you could take your ice skates with you now.  Better have a chain saw or a tuff group of guys with big mauls and axes.
