New Turkey barrel for 870 express 12 gauge???
« on: December 25, 2016, 03:06:11 PM »
I'm going to try hunting Turkey's this coming spring. I currently have a Remington 870 with a 28" barrel I use for shooting trap. I was hoping for some input on barrels for Turkey?  I have some Christmas money to go towards it.  Sounds like a sighted barrel is the way to go? 21-24 " . Thank you in advance. Jason

I own an 870 with a 28" barrel and an an 870 with a much shorter barrel with sights designed for turkey hunting. Killed several turkeys with each. Honestly, I prefer the 28" barrel with the traditional bead. :twocents:

My sons all have 870s, and we just put full choke in for turkeys. We just have the bead sights.

Turkeys seem to die just fine.

As already noted your barrel length is just fine, I used a 32" trap gun last season just for fun. I would just get a good turkey choke or just a Rem-choke in Full. If you think or want to get sights look at Redring or Tru-glow red-dots that clamp on the rib, there are some other brands but the two listed I know. Or Hi-Vis also makes a set of clamp on sights that are not bad as well. With clamp on sights you can remove them and use your shotgun as it was meant to be. Everyone has an opinion on the subject this is only my  :twocents:
Best of luck with you hunt.

Thanks for the info on the clamp on sights, that might be a good route with a turkey choke
