You'll actually find much less pressure by driving an hour or so further and hitting Montana.  More and more WA hunters are hitting Idaho.  Have noticed an amazing increase in pressure the last five years.  If I was starting from scratch I would do Montana.   :twocents:

Montana is also almost $500 more for the tag. That's the reason I will eventually hunt idaho instead of montana.

Actually only $266.50 different, but that is still more expensive.  However, I still say if I was starting from scratch I would take the long view and commit to Montana.   :twocents: :twocents:

ATTENTION SPORTSMEN AND WOMEN OF IDAHO! Just got a call form the Fish and Game and they are expecting severe winter die off (UP TO 80%) of the fawns, in the Weiser, Gooding, Shoshone, Ketchum, areas... extreme winter conditions have forced the deer on to roads. The Game department has started emergency winter feeding in these areas. Please stay away and don't pressure the deer. Don't be that guy that thinks he is not effecting the deer. Let the game department do their job. Thank you!
Looks like something unsubstantiated to me, not trying to call you out bone but there have been lots of chicken little sky is falling doomsdayers with the winter we've had here in Idaho. Winter kill is going to be bad but I haven't heard or read anything where IDFG is  actually stating how bad

Idaho is feeding deer and elk in many areas. I have several guides who live around Idaho, most are reporting that there is a lot of snow, but most say the deer still look fair and some southern exposure is baring off. I'm hoping numbers hold steady, I think what happens with weather this month and next month makes the biggest difference! Fingers crossed! My advice is to call the regional office where you might want to hunt in May and ask for the elk and deer biologist, ask them about winter impacts!

For your information that is straight from IDFG.  I received the same email as well as some correspondence with the bio for my area.

I went out snowshoeing a little this weekend and found 5 fresh cat kills.  Only one meals worth eaten out of each one.  Couldn't believe it.  The deer were breaking through the crust and the cats were staying on top.   :yike:  Not good for sure.  We need some serious warm weather and wind about now.
