Elk Tactics 2017 - Episode #2
« on: January 17, 2017, 10:38:16 AM »
Date/Time: End of October, 2017/9:30 AM
Location: Somewhere in the elk woods
Hunt Pressure Status: Minimal
Hunt: Solo hunt today
Tag: Modern (rifle) season

Sitting in your field made ground blind, this fine fellow came trotting right past the water point and a bit over 100 yards from your position and gives you the stinky eye. H = you/hunter and W = wind/thermal direction (thermals are still lightly blowing right to left). If the bull continues in the direction he's facing, he'll disappear into some pretty thick brush. Now, what's your game plan to try and bring this bull home for dinner? Is there a shot here?

If you're shooting, save the picture to your desktop and open in MS Paint, then place a spot, X, or whatever on the critter before you save it back to a jpg or png and add the marked up pic with your post.

I take it that the view given is our view from blind and our shooting position/thru scope?

If so then NO SHOT, it's all about the backstop folks.  Never shoot when there is no solid backstop behind the target, you have no way to know were that round will go after you double lung that chucklehead.

Need to figure out a way to get uphill of him so that can shoot down on him or get him to move so he drops a bit to provide one.  If There was a good backstop the branches would not concern me much being modern firearm and around 100yrds, hammer gets dropped on the little red dot.  Both lungs gone, possibly close shoulder, and heart should get severe trauma if not nicked as well.
