Well, the Camaro project got a lot more expensive this year. Bought new Hedman Hedders for her, went to start the prep of having a new exhaust system put in today. Got both old headers off and noticed there are 2 different heads on the motor. Passenger side has round ports, drivers side is square port. Going to yank the motor this week and begin tear down to make sure nothing else was done improper, but don’t have high hopes. Going to end up doing aluminum heads, bigger cam, and probably have cylinders honed, new bearings and gaskets all the way around. Figure if I’m going to start tearing into it might as well go all the way!  Headers look good though

Good choice...”while you’re in there” :chuckle:

It’s beginning to be that time of year for the winter projects to get rolling!! What’s on everyone lists??
Update since last post; heads were matched, it ended up being a slice of the gasket was stuck on the head that I didn’t see in the poorly lit shop. Felt like an idiot after that. Got the exhaust system done with a pair of Flowmaster super 44’s. Couldn’t be happier with the job that was done. Everything is ran nice and tight, super clean and out of the way. Now we are pulling the motor for sure as it started burning oil pretty bad. It hazes at an idle pretty consistently, and you can smell it good when you give her the pickle. Going to drop in a bored out and built 454 we are starting on soon. Will keep the 396 for a future project for our son who’s arriving this spring (that’s what I’m telling the wife to get away with it anyway) I’m thinking we need to build him a big block Chevelle, but she’s certain if we go that route there’s a good chance we will be grandparents far too soon 🤣

Brother and I raced a LOT in the 70’s. This was one of our faster motors. 327 small journal, steel crank. Lots of internal and head work. Used to shift at 8K, could go 8500 in a pinch.
Thought about selling it but they are not worth much. Pulled the 9 quart pan and started thinking a out how much work was in it and what it would cost to build it today. Not selling it any more.
Had a whole lot of cars and I probably have one more build in me, but I think I will put it on a stand and fire it up once in a while.

Sold the Cutlass and drug this home a couple weeks ago. Not quite the project though; hope it counts.
