My 10 year old son and I did 3 days this past weekend and had a great time. The roads are horrific in the Huckleberry unit, we wound up doing a lot of hiking and had a tough time making good use of our time because the few points and peaks with any fresh growth were very isolated.  The trip was amazing though, getting that much time with just my young son and I was priceless.  We camped in various spots in a 2 man tent, had lots of ice on the tent, froze at night, got blown off the mountain with hail and snow, and didn't see any bears.  And... he didn't complain once the entire trip.  Oh yea, we cooked "mountain man nachos" in the cast iron skillet over the fire. We burned the heck out of the chips and cheese but he didn't care.  He also pulled a #dudeperfect on the new world record ground squirrel haha.  Also, he wanted to get burgers at an "old fashioned" place on our way home. No problem!

We found where one bear had been out of the den, feeding in a very small isolated area.   That was the one bit of sign we found but it was in such a tough spot we couldn't wait on that point till dark without freezing thanks to the wind.

Hopefully we connect in a month when we get back up there.

AWESOME pics fly. Very cool taking the boy out. Looks like a blast glad you guys had fun. I think I'll be hunting spring bear every year. Going to Idaho next year if I don't draw blues with 1 point.

Thanks! My buddy and I were thinking about heading over to the Mt. View unit and we were wondering what the snow level looked like

I hunted hard yesterday but saw no fresh sign.  I did, however, find a set of sheds.  Just the right size for my son.  :)

Duckslayer the hike out of that hole is more than alot of  guys can handle.. Beautiful country this time of year. THats a tough spot to day hunt. Spend a couple nights down in there and your bear will show up. Hate to see that winterkill in there. Enjoy your hunt

Good luck to you on a great bear and a good hunt.

Thanks man. Did you draw a spring tag? If you did good luck to you. First time in the Wenaha/Blues. I'll be staying in Lewiston tonight if anyone is around.

No I didn't even get to put in. I started a new job as a juvenile corrections officer and I will have week of vacation right around fall bear opener, so I will use 4 days for bear(plus my 2 off) and the other 3(plus my two off) for deer season.

Must be a slow year for the bear with the late spring?  When does it become more active with bear movement.  Thought I'd have seen a few bear on here by now.  I'm trying to save my time and money till later in the season but it's hard with a tag open. This rain is killing me.
