Fuzz bucks
« on: April 20, 2017, 12:47:06 AM »
Not sure if it's been brought up here before, but I got to thinking, why don't we off some August special permit fuzz buck hunts? Seems like it could go into the quality tag category. Quite a few of the other western states offer this style of hunt, you'd think we could get some traction on it without too many problems.

Just my opinion but Deer get hunted and pressured for four months already (sept, oct, nov, dec).  I dont really see a need for it, especially now after the harvest of 2015 and the last couple winters, I think our herds will really be struggling the next five years.  Wouldnt be surprised if we see pretty substantial permit cuts.

Me and a buddy were talking about this the other night. I think they should have a quality archery permit only the second to last week in august and gi e the guys that want a velvet buck a chance to get one

In general I agree that its not needed for most of the state we already have a pretty good harvest in most places. But maybe like Witcomb Island that are incredibly tough to hunt during the time frame given and permit only. With all the pressure in that place from dove hunting and people all over the Island,  even though your not supposed to leave the roads when not hunting, cause the deer to be tough to hunt Oct. 1st to 10th. If you move that to be an August hunt for one or 2 tags you would harvest more deer that 10 tags in October. I hunted it for a good 6 days and didn't hear of a buck being taken during archery interested to see the harvest report.

Not sure if it's necessary. I always see bucks in velvet the first couple weeks of archery anyway. Both mules and whites.
