I'm sure they will still sell out fast. Here is the price list for all the areas.

If I didn't live so close to Vail (stare at it every day) I wouldn't buy it.  This might be my last year and my hunting $$ might be spent in Idaho or Montana

People always will. Especially those who don't have the time to travel and scout areas several hours away.

Ya my property butts up to it on the north fork, I never have bought one...

Just wondering at what cost people say to hell with it, as I'm sure the cost will continue to climb..

I bet they go to $500 before people really put the brakes on.

The hunting has gone down steadily since they started it.  A LOT more poaching and having yahoos in there year round isn't helping.

That's sad, if managed correctly that could be a blacktail hotbed...

And yes, the poaching has gotten worse.

There are a lot more deer shot before and after shooting light up there. I caught several people doing it. One actually put there pic up on the Vail Permit Holders Facebook page. I was 300 yards away when they shot it 20 minutes after dark and it was a "buck" that was so small that they had to hold the hair down to tell it had nubbins.  A lot of shoot first and find out later. The same 3 way corner we saw a woman kill a 60 pound fawn with 6 shots.  >:(

I've had the permit several years now. Three I think. The warden is always at the back gate and is checking permits.  There's only two other gates and the wardens are watching them too. So if they quit doing yhe timber companies jobs and started targeting poachers they'd be able to stop that real quick. Two wardens could have most people too scared to poach. I will be videoing taping and turning in any poachers I see out there.  Hook my camera up to my 85mm vortex spotting scope and you won't even know you're being watched.   :hello:

We were in Vail a LOT last season and only saw 1 officer doing a check at the Sorrenson gate. Never saw another WDFW officer or Weyco security the whole season.

They will probably continue to hike the price until the permits stop selling out.

That said, for $100 more you can hunt deer in Idaho. Tack on $42 if you want to go for bear too.

I won't be renewing this year, or purchasing the permit again.

It sucks when you can't hunt right behind your house like that
