You can also use a bladder from a wine box, just cover it with a small pillow case or sweatshirt. Cheap and easy  :)

I played football in highshool and took a lot a shots to the head in neck. Yoga helps, but when I don't have neck support I get really bad pain in my neck and shoulder. I wake up hurting on new beds sometimes too. Head support is a must for me and I've started looking into packable pillows. following this one for sure.

I tried sleeping on some clothes for a few seasons.  It wasn't comfortable and i didn't sleep very good so i bought the Sea to Summit inflatable pillow.  Thing weights like 2 ounces and is awesome.  Once i bust it out my buddies are wanting to check it out really fast..

I've used a sea to summit pillow for a few seasons now and have grown to love it. Price was steep at something like $45. But I personally get great neck support and a good night sleep from it. Packs up crazy small. Smaller than a fist. Check one out at REI before you buy.

I use the same one. It's made all the difference in the world to how well I sleep. Highly recommend it.

I'm north of 40 now and sleeping on the ground just isn't as easy as it used to be. I've done the clothes in a stuff sack thing and it just doesn't cut it for me. Everyone is different. I picked up one of the exped size large pillows. The wife took a nap on it yesterday and gave it a thumbs up. Looks like i'll be buying her one too. I'm doing a backcountry turkey trip next week and we try it out in the field. Thanks for the input everyone. I'll let you know what I think of the exped.

I know many of you swear by a different pillow but I've used this one on all of my backpacking & hunting trips (200+ miles of backpacking each August & some ungodly amount of miles after elk in October):

This pillow and my whiskey are my two comfort items; they work together very nicely & I don't go into the backcountry without either.

I was a wad up the jacket kind of guy for a long time too... Now at 42 I get that horrible neck pain and an a$$ kicker of a headache when I do that... I ended up with the sea to summit inflatable and it works pretty well for me.. Still get the stiff neck in the morning time to time, but not nearly as bad as I used to with the wadded up jacket.. Not cheap, but super light weight and packs up tiny!

+1 for the sea-to-summit inflatable.  I've been using mine for 3-ish years now on dozens of camping/backpacking trips and love it.

Tried inflatable couldn't stand it. Found a stuff pillow at Basspro that has its own sack and fluffs up real nice. I believe it is one pound and is worth every ounce for less than $20

Same one I use as well and I also love it.  The best feature is the release valve button that lets you finely adjust it.
