Anyone bear hunt?
« on: May 26, 2017, 03:54:19 PM »
I'm probably going to head into a spot I've been wanting to check out the weekend of June 10. Any tag holders who have the ability to backpack hunt, and shoot long range want to come along? I plan on putting 15+ miles spring hoping and moving camp.

Wouldn't mind packing out a bear.

Headed there next weekend, but your offer is tempting. Found a few last trip, no shooters tho so hopefully the boars are traveling a little more now.

It sounds like it is finally heating up. Was there 8 days starting on the 13th and saw a total of 3 bears. I covered 25-30 miles on foot over the first 5 days and another 50-60 by truck and 10-15 by foot late in the hunt checking out all of the accessible south end.  Great hunt, love that area!

Good luck guys!

Ya I also have Fridays off, so I'd be probably driving to the TH Thursday night or first thing Friday morning. Trying to maximize my time in there.

My general attitude while hunting is summed up in this meme...

Depending on where your going in I might have some tips, one would be bring a super light pair of running shoes to get across the streams as most of the bridges have burnt and hiking in wet boots that far is blister city

When there earlier in May there was one potential log crossing ~1/4 mile below where the upper trail from Three Forks campground meets the river trail. We didn't try crossing there, but headed up valley. It looked like it wouldn't be too bad to hike up to the packer trail from the log crossing. The river was running fast and deep while we were there though we didn't try any main stem crossings. There is another log crossing just above the First Creek cabin so you don't have to get wet there either.

There is a lot of country on the east side of the river, we didn't see many bears on either side of the river so didn't feel the extra effort to cross the river was worthwhile. Hope things change for you guys and the bears start popping soon.

:yeah:  Same hunt same results this weekend.  Somehow missed that log above first creek cabin.   Shoulda packed my wiggys.   Worked up first creek aways then back down the main stream a mile or so.  Too Hot !
