Take a hike to scout a wknd before your hunt to Coyote Lake.(Lily Lake Trail, clear branch cowlitz river trail. The trail is signed to lost lake at intersection with an old shelter. As there is no maintained trail to coyote you'll have to get a topo map.The yakima cascade horsemen maintained it some years.Set up a scope on the knob between coyote and lost hat lake(north side of lake facing west tword coal ridge). You should see lots of goats. With a partner to help pack out you shouldnt require an outfitter as its only 5 miles from lily lake trailhead and all downhill.I packed out a small blacktail in 1 trip by myself. The pack only weighed 146#s.The wknd that I took that buck I had 2 big billys on a rock outcrop stand above me while I boned out my buck less than 200 yrds from me.This is above the lake on the meadow benches full of deer and elk, too.Brush can hide the brown critters but the goats stand out even with snow patches covering the creeks. For a young heathy guy a scramble up to shooting range  from your spotting hide shouldnt be a problem.Think subalpine like crimpons for traction and figure 8 belay descender,100' rope for getting you and your game down the steep pitches. If you have good boots you might not need the crimpons but your knees will thank you if you have them. I stuffed the meat&head into my pack, threw the doubled  line around an outcrop & descended to the next bench.I then retrieved the line and repeated it til I was back to my camp on the lake.Getting my gear back into the pack took less than an hour and 4 hours to reach the rig at the trailhead. Hope to see your goat pictures posted here.Get it mounted as most of us will never get the chance.

Congrats, I had that tag in 2000 and it is an incredible hunt. I would be happy to share what I know from the 100+ miles of boot leather I burned up there scouting and hunting.

OMIGOD Josh, that is awesome.  (BTW I have put that table saw to good use, thanks.)  I'm retired now, if you need any help, let me know.  I'm a good pack mule.

Ya jeez wow. I already can't thank you guys enough. This is going to be DIY. No guides. Nothing against guides, it's just not in my budget at this point. I talked to White Pass Outfitters already. Been bouncing some ideas off of him. Good dude.  Some of you will be getting pm's and phone calls. I can't thank you enough.

Congrats on a great permit  only wish it was me  :chuckle: but I'm more than happy that it was a good guy from this site that got it and we will be able to see the results.
