White River( Quality elk)
« on: June 18, 2017, 01:06:29 PM »
Is it in my best interest to get the Handcock permit? It's been awhile well many years since I've gone up there. In 08 I got the permit to go deer hunting but that's the end of my Handcock experience. My hunting partner thinks the ski slopes are the best bet I'm thinking over around Mutton Mtn or the Mud Mtn area. After 18 years of no elk permits I really want to make it pay off. Any help from you guys is greatly appreciated.

CONGRATS     You got a great tag. i would not pay the hammock fee with all of the good country available.  i believe the tribes hit the hunting grounds around sep 1 and they hit it hard on the tree farm.
Between Crystal and corral Pass, you have a lot of awesome high alpine to check out, and there will be plenty of bulls to choose from.  A few guys on here have some good info on this tag.  Hunt it hard and best of luck.

I'd avoid the above mentioned areas, that's were everyone else will be. There's better ground with less pressure if ur willing to look. Good luck on the tag!

65+/- permits,  only 23 bulls.  This hunt is not a gimme, best of luck on your hunt.

ok thanks for the info. Time to put the packs on and cover some ground. I would imagine that the bulls move up later in the year from where they are now? Do you know if we are allowed to pack a camp in up there?

Isn't Big Crow Basin in the Little Naches?...wrong side of the ridge for the White River...same for the Corral Pass area...make sure the bull is on the correct side of the ridge!
