What insert glue to use?
« on: July 03, 2017, 05:32:55 PM »
I usually glue all my own inserts and the last bottle I had was awesome. It dried up and was tossed out long ago but the stuff was awesome, I have only had maybe 3 inserts ever loosen up. Wish I could remember what the name was. I just remember it was a slow drying glue. I tried Gorilla glue once but bonds to fast for my liking.

What do you all recommend for an insert glue? I shoot FOB's so I don't need a glue I can also use for fletching. I want a strong hold, dry time doesn't matter. I haven't found anything yet I like in my readings.

I shoot GT Pro Hunter, carbon arrow, aluminum insert.
God Bless,
Scott

I've only ever used Easton quick bond but that's real quick like the gorilla glue. I've thought about trying Bohning ferr-l-tite cool flex. Its low temp melt so you don't have to heat shaft to install.

I use just regular hot glue. Never had a issue with inserts pulling out. Even on the carpet targets I shoot at

Hot Glue...!? I find that interesting and that it has that strong of a hold. The only thing I can get hot glue to stick to is everything I DON'T want it to stick to.

Try gorilla glue hot glue, best hot glue I've used. Never done arrows with it but I did just replace and eye on my fishing pole with it and it doing very well.

Hot glue if you want to be able to rotate.
Goat tuff if you want them to stay put and not rotate them.

Just need to set the insert and square it up with a spin test. I can easily align my FOB to the blades.

1.Take a .223 clean brush on a drill and run it up inside to scuff the smooth inside of the shaft.

2. Clean inside with acetone on a cue tip.

3. Wipe down all the inserts with acetone.

4. Use fresh cryo glue like goat tuff or gold tip-tip grip.

Just like getting paint to stick, the prep is most important.

Check out Rapid Fuse. It's made by Dap. Works awesome. Never had a problem with the stuff.
30 seconds to set and 30 minutes to cure.
