Goose Prairie Quality
« on: July 06, 2017, 09:47:29 AM »
My old man drew 1/5 quality rifle tags for Goose prairie.  We took a respectable bull out last year on his bull tag but this year's hunt is earlier.  We saw only bulls on our scouting trips and hunt and I'm wondering where the ladies are?  Lower, thicker, cover?  Any info...
Thank you!

Took a road trip through the Goose Prairie area on July 4. Saw about 50 elk, 3 five point or better bulls and several spikes. Unfortunately saw signs posted to watch out for the domestic sheep flock. Ran in to them last year and they had a huge flock of sheep grazing through. I don't think that helps the hunting in that unit.

The sheep have grazed that country for years.  The elk have endured the woolies in good fashion.

Update on Dads upcoming Quality rifle rut hunt.  We are heading over on labor day to do a little more scouting.  We've secured stock but will only be able to use them day to day vs camping.  Anyone with info on best day trails to hit?  Is the MJB to Rattlesnake peak a doable trek in a day? We will be scouting three days prior to the opener and would like to locate a nice bull ahead of time.
Any info is appreciated.  Thanks

Depending on where you are coming from, note the large wildfires in Norse Peak and William O'Douglas. Highway 410 Closed. https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/5509/
