Bino to tripod advice?
« on: July 12, 2017, 06:08:59 PM »
Can anybody recommend a binocular tripod adapter that they like? I'd be using it to attatch Leica ultravid 10x42's, light weight is a plus but a secure connection and ease of use are my main concerns.. thanks!

Unless binoculars are all you are going to run on a tripod, I'd forget the bino specific tripod adapter.  For me, it's so much easier to rest the bino's on the flatish platform of the tripod pan-head and simply pan around wherever I want to look with the added stability of the head tightened up (just enough).  Plenty of stability for bino's.

If and when, it's easy to simply drop the bino's and pop the spotter into place.  Otherwise, it seems like a wasted move to dick around (and pay for and carry around) with the bino adapter.

Get this.

https://www.amazon.com/Field-Optics-Research-Rapid-Release-Binocular/dp/B00A45DQV6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1499960906&sr=8-1&keywords=field+research+adapter

and a couple of quick disconnects that fit your tripod head.

the Field optics adapter locks the binos on so there is no chance for them to fall off.

The Oudoorsmans binocular mount would be good.  They make a specific stud adapter for your Leica ultravid binoculars to go with the mount.

I have Nikon Monarchs 10x56 ATB so am a bit more limited due to the lack of space between the lenses for adapters.    I bought the Nikon made tripod adapter specific for my binoculars.

Some of the third party adapters are only $20.  The Outdoorsmans costs a little more at $60, plus the $28 Leica adapter.  So $88 total, but cheaper than the $150 Leica made adapter.  And at least you know it fits your model.

And it's less than the Swarovski $150 quick release mount.  :-)  Although that mount looks nice.

How does the outdoorsman mount to the ultravids? Do I have to send them in to have the stud swapped out? I had not seen these, looks pretty slick exactly what I was looking for I just don't quite get how it mounts up
