Need a new tripod
« on: July 28, 2017, 02:59:19 AM »
Looking to get a new legit tripod. Not sure exactly what to get. I'm willing to spend a little money to get something that is solid and will last. Any recommendations?

outdoorsman is the most solid, but also heavy.  20-30 mph winds and will remain solid.  the carbon versions out there are nice, light, but not as solid in wind.

I'd put a price range in this question as there's a huge variety and prices can vary drastically.

I just picked up a demo model promaster xc525c from camralandny for $250 and it has pretty good reviews.

What do you want it to do?

Example:  I use some Manfrotto 055XProb when I want to have a center column that can be set horizontal but even carbon they can be heavier than I am willing to pack very far.

I got great advice a year ago. Buy a Outdoorsmans! You will never question the purchase, I promise you. They are expensive, but less expensive than buying two other tri pods. I have the medium from Outdoorsmans and love it.

I'm really tough on gear. I had been through a couple different low end tri-pods and decided I needed to spend a little money, also. I was on the verge of buying the Outdoorsman's but after shopping around and reading a ton of reviews ended up going with the SLIK PRO 634 CFL Carbon Fiber Tripod and Manfrotto MXHPRO-2W 2-Way pan/tilt head. The head is heavy and I thought I would return it. But after using it a ton and beating the heck out both of them I have been pleasantly surprised. The only maintenance I have had to do was re-tightening the allen screws on the flip locks on my tripod. It has been bullet proof. You wont regret spending the $$.  :twocents:

If your budget is in the lower end, I have a Vortex and so far have been happy with it.
