Chinook pass closed FYI
« on: August 17, 2017, 12:43:32 PM »
SR 410 Both Directions - SR 410 Chinook Pass is closed between milepost 84 Hell's Crossing westbound, and just east of the summit milepost 69 eastbound, due to a brush fire. This closure may possibly be over next few days as crews work to contain the fire and remove potentially hazardous trees along the highway.

Does this block access to bumping Lake?  I don't know how far down mile post 69 is.  Thanks.

Yes. I think 69 is right near the lookout by the summit.

It's closed from the east side at mm 84.  Bumping is mm 89. You can get to bumping from the east side. No problem

Shouldn't ruin any plans unless that's the exact spot you are going to.  123 is still an option

:yeah:

Bumping is still reachable.  You have to take a detour coming from the west side, but no problem from the east.  It's just pleasant valley and the southern access to Norse Peak Wilderness that are off limits.

Reaching Bumping from the west would take an extra couple hours though with the detour on 123.

I got to see this fire the night before they shut down the road.  It was a sight, for sure.

Thanks.  I never make it that far around but was curious.  Normally 123 to 12 and near the crest.

Anyone have pictures ? I don't know this area and I hunt wetside in a non fire area. But forest fires fascinate me so just curious!

FWIW, I'm glad to see a fire in this area.  I've been hiking there a few times recently and it was definitely overdue.  Based on the fuel level on the forest floor, I'd be surprised if we don't lose a lot of trees, but it would have only gotten worse so I'm glad to see it.

Kinda cool to get to see a lightening-started fire in a wilderness area.  An impressively wild side of nature not many get to see.

Mom sent me a pic of both from the top of Chinook today. The fire in the William O. Is fairly active. Trail cam is probably burnt up or will be soon.

We were on Ravens Roost this eve. There is a finger of fire working it's way down towards Crow Lake. It's gonna definitely burn till snow.

That was going last Sunday when I was there.  Not an easy spot to get to.

Bummer.  I had camera up there about a month before the fire started and that was my first thought when I heard about it.

Grabbed my cams this morning. West of ravens roost a bit. Thought they would be close to the fire looking at the fire maps. No fire or smoke seen.

Chinook has been opening up from 8pm to 6am the last couple nights. Possibly opening up for good tomorrow when they re-assess the situation along the highway. keeping a close eye on it via inciweb.

Glad you got your cams out. Is the road to Raven's still open?  It would be a good spot to photograph the fire depending on lighting/smoke conditions.

Inciniweb has a section of fire on the map in the Crow Creek Lake basin, about 2-3mi west of Sheepherder lake.  I really do hope the majority of that area gets fire.  It will be CRAZY beautiful in a couple years with all that junk on the forest floor gone.  There are lots of elk in that basin too, so it ought to be great hunting after the fire with some of the forest thinned

Ya the 1902 up to ravens roost appeared to be open but I didn't go up it. Looking at the closure map it should be open. Hope it doesn't burn that direction for our archery elk hunts sake. But yes it could use a good burn there.  Just not this year.
