took the 12FV 6.5CM to the range against last night.  It's riding in a McMillan HTG stock now outfitted with savage bottom metal and DBM.  The 42.0 grains of H4350 load is the winner.  It put 5 shots in less than an inch at 200 yards.  Avg MV of 2760 with that load.  I'll be taking this gun to Montana for deer and antelope next month.

I don't know that it matters on the break in really. But because I'm a creature of habit I follow the same procedure on all my barrels factory or custom. Shoot one, clean one for first 5 shots; shoot 5 and clean for next 20 shots.

My buddy who has the same rifle didn't follow any procedure. They both still shoot.

It's still available online:

http://www.cabelas.com/product/SAVAGE-FV-VARMINT-RIFLE/1994604.uts

Better hurry and order one. They all say "limited stock."

I'd get one but already have enough rifles. All I need is a new rifle for my kids but this one is too heavy.

Ordered one up in 6.5 Creedmoor. It's destined to become a chassis rifle in time. For 250 bucks why would you not get one? How do you go about finding out when it will come to the store?

You will get an email when the rifle arrives at the store but wait until they call you before you drive down to pick it up. There is a lag between the email and when they receive it into store inventory. If you assume it's ready for pick up just because you received an email you may make a trip for nothing. Don't ask me how I know. Wait for the phone call.

Oh and by the way, I took the 6.5CM out to 600 yards last night. It held a half minute 3 shot group and kept the single digit ES. So I'm convinced that the Savage 12FV is the best deal going in the firearms industry.

:chuckle: I'm 3 hours away from the store so you can be sure there will be a phone call made to ensure its there. I have a savage fluted lr 6.5 x 284 that shoots lights out so this was an easy sell on me. That's cool to hear yours is a shooter, how did it shoot bone stock before the McMillian upgrade? Do these have the target version of the accutrigger that adjusts down below 2lbs or the 2.5lb+ version? What bullet are you loading for it?

Anybody have any experience with the different chassis out there that wont break the bank? Like the looks of the MPA BA lite or MDT ESS but have never seen or held them.

The rifle shot very well bone stock. During barrel break-in it was in the original plastic stock. It's pillar bedded from the factory so it's a good platform. I used a mild load of 38.0 grains of 4350 during break-in. It put every round during the 25 round process into 1.5 inches at 200 yards.

As for the trigger it is not the varmint version which has a 1.5 pound lower end.

I'm shooting berger 140 VLD for now. Will play with the 130 AR hybrids and maybe 143 ELD-X this winter. I like a bullet that dumps it's energy payload into the target so for now sticking with the berger.
