Gun safe dehumidifiers
« on: September 11, 2017, 08:42:38 AM »
What are you guys running for your gun safe dehumidifiers? I have Cannon safe located in the garage and starting to get very slight surface rust on a few of the safe queens. Going to try and nip this in the butt before it gets out of hand. I have a few of the cheapo "rechargeable" Remington ones but it might be time for those to go. I do have a hole in the back to run a cord through. Been looking at the rod style. Thanks for the info

When I bought my Browning safe 6 or 7 years ago, I purchased a Browning flexible dehumidifier.  All I can comment on is that no surface rust whatsoever or any indication of it not working since I installed it.

My old safe I had the Goldenrod dehumidifier, but I sold that safe when I got a bigger safe, and the dehumidifier went with it. I still haven't got around to buying a new dehumidifier for the new safe, but haven't had any issues with rust, so I'm not sure I even need one. And this is out in my garage.

I have a safe in my Basement w/ consistent temp. I use the silica granules. Every few months I recharge them by baking in the oven. Cheap and no problems

GoldenRod

x2
x3 - going on 14 years in an unheated garage.  I also make sure everything is dry and wiped down with a cloth with WD-40 when it goes back into the safe.

I picked up a cannon scout 48 gun safe about a year ago. Looking at the goldenrods I see they run from 18"-36".  How do you determine which size is adequate for your safe?

Goldenrod. They come in all different length and some different colors if you don't wanna see the brass rod in the bottom.

Dumb question.......... Do all makes of safes come with a hole to run the electrical cord through?

I'll have to look at mine tonight, i can't picture one other than where I lagged into the wall.
