Back up plan needs another back up plan
« on: September 16, 2017, 01:43:28 PM »
I don't know where to begin and where to end...season is not quit over but my miles have miles on top of miles looking for these "elk" and my pains have pains that want to be rewarded for the efforts, but WTH, where did the elk go? I have been out with my boys in the Mashel area and I have not heard a single elk bugle nor have I seen any fresh sign any where. My youngest and I had one encounter of a black bear at 40 yards which I didn't have a shot at and nothing else.
Where have the elk gone?
Good memories so far with my boys but unfortunately I had to drop my oldest off at college yesterday. Glad to have my youngest on my side still wanting to hunt with me regardless. Still a few days left and a couple of eavning hunts to go.
Has anyone had any success so far in and around the unit? I just need to know that someone is having or has had some success. This may just allow me to push through the next 10 miles, 40,000 steps, 400 flights of stairs and endless bee stings (so many bees this year). Good luck!

Thats funny...I must be too far east and too far west. The third pic with my oldest son is about 10 miles west of the first pic.

Pretty depressing, huh?

Spent five days and I don't know how many miles, and all I got for my effort was a flash of blonde in the dark timber.  Couldn't ID or get even a look at it.

I drug my youngest around the mountains again down into the deepest darkest ruines and again came up short.  We didn't see a thing, hopefully with this weather pattern things will change but not sure how many more nights I'll have to go out with my son as Thursday is the last day. Kapowsin is going to open the gates and allow us to go back in so maybe we'll have some luck with bear and or a deer Friday.

Good luck guys. Packing up for a bivy for the next 3 days. Making sure I have all my rain gear. Hope things are starting to heat up in the area I was in. The first 5 days was a base camp and ghost town except other hunters.
