Colville Tribe Proclaims Hunting Season?

Is this a new, self proclaimed season for the Colville's?

Very interesting and proactive. I like it.

As far as I know, yes.

The Wenatchi Tribe was it's own tribe and signed a treaty in the 1850s but it's never been recognized by the feds so they've been in a battle to get their treaty rights. They've essentially been adopted as part of the Colville Confederated Tribes and operate under the Colvilles. The only people who can hunt this area would be those of the Wenatchi tribe, and not all CCT members.

You like it? I thought you'd be against it. A tribe expanding it's hunting area?

I'm curious as to why the possession limit is twice what the yearly limit is?

My guess would be that it is the same as game fish is considered - usually 2 x daily limits equals possession limits.

This would account for processed / in freezer meat as being part of the personal possession limit - no matter if harvested a season or two ago.

You don't want anyone stocking up a freezer with game or game fish that will go to waste, but at the same time a fellow ought not have to completely exhaust his resources before refilling his locker.

It actually makes the most sense logistically.

You are talking about daily and possession limits. The posted regs are yearly limits and possession limits. Example: 2 deer a year but 4 in possession?

The Wenatchapam (or as the Colvilles say-wenatchii)  tribe is signatory to the Yakama Treaty. They are 1 of the 14 tribes and bands confederates under the Yakama Treaty of 1855. They are the Wenatchapam band. Thats  why every year we have a small gathering at icicle creek and the direct descendents (and the hereditary chief) host the gathering.

Plat, are these imposed limits scientifically established or are they just to satisfy subsistence living?

The Colville tribe is made up of 12 different tribes. This is for the Wenatchi tribe. As far as I know nobody is really hunting on this area...yet. My family is from the Sinixt, the arrow lakes tribe. They have aboriginal hunting territory off the Colville rez  in BC but that matter is currently tied up in Canadian court.

And the regs don't bother me, let them hunt.  :twocents:

It's not new, as I've said before. Social media and instant opportunity to share has really brought things to the forefront. We, as Tribes have had rights that were reserved and pre-dated treaties and were for many reasons not allowed or told we could not exercise those rights or had not pressed the rights.

The Colville for example, have the band of chief Joseph of the Nez Perce. All the bands and tribes had their own established territories and those fall unto the confederates tribe as a whole.

I don't know what they have as far as documentation but I know they have won cases with the Wenatchapam  (wenatchii) ties.

Bigtex, I can't tell by that map, but it looks like the Entiat river drainage?

Please elaborate on the bolded part, the only people "of the confederated Tribes"?
