Chantrelles?
« on: September 24, 2017, 11:10:10 AM »
Just wondering if anyone is seeing some of these guys "chantrelles" pop up on the westside yet? I was figuring with that little first spurt of rain some might be showing. I was hunting high country eastside so I'm not in the know yet. Very limited on time due to work and I'm trying to get out and grab some for my mother who cant do it anymore due to 2 hip replacements. If anyone is not super protective of a patch they've found or could direct me to a good area it would be greatly appreciated. I also promise not to rape the whole batch and pick them properly for regrowth.

I got a full grocery bag of chantrelles on Wed. Mostly smaller sized. Largest were about 4 inches across. Lots of tiny buttons coming up.

As for finding them, I usually get them in 20 year old reprod or older timber.  I watch the cutbanks on the logging roads and if I see any, I park and explore the area. Found some good patches that way.

I've been finding them for a week or more now.

Where elk bed. Dense timber with nothing growing. Except maybe moss and maybe some ferns. But dark.

I found these Chantrelles a few years back in a thick patch of salal/Oregon grape and baby vine maples and ferns. Not typically where I find them, but have found them in places like this before.

Nice pics. We didn't find any this weekend.
