7mm rem mag ammo?
« on: September 25, 2017, 03:56:02 PM »
So I have a brand new Savage weather warrior in 7mm Rem Mag with a 1:9.5" twist. I've read a lot about what weight  bullets like certain twist rates. I've only tried the Hornady 154 SST and it is not very accurate to say the least. Do any of you have any suggestion on what round I should try next? I've read that this twist rate really likes 140 to 160 grain bullets? Just looking to hear if you have any real world experiences or suggestions

My 7mag likes Winchester accubonds, and Barnes vortx 160's. Just picked up some Barnes vortx lr 139's that I'm going to try this week.

Same gun, same results; nice tight groups. Only other round I tested was 180 grain and it was all over the place.]

I also have a savage weather warrior 7mm mag factory ammo it loves the hsm gold with 168 gr berger hvld. Shoots 1 inch all day. I am in the process of working up a load with the hornady  162gr eldx using retumbo, 4831sc, and norma mrp looks promising with all three powders.

I have 10 7mm Rem mag rounds, factory that you can have if you want them.  I don't know what they are other than Federal.  You could shoot 9 of them and then, if they work well, pull the last one apart to see what weight it is.

Thanks for the input guys. I am only shooting factory ammo because I don't reload. I'm going to pick up some different ammo today to try out. I will try something in the 160+ grain and see how that does.
