Bobcat down
« on: October 17, 2017, 08:42:12 AM »
This was about as unexpected as it gets in terms of hunting.  I was hunting deer, watching this nice big draw where I have had success in the past, and the wind was howling.  I always sit at this same tree, and the tree has nice big 5 foot rock right next to it that is flat in the front.  So I hunkered down against the rock and out of the wind so I could be a little more comfortable while I watched my draw.  I was sitting there soaking up the sun and all of a sudden I catch movement out of the corner of my eye.  Sure enough a bobcat strolls right around the tree and starts walking right below me, less than 5 yards away.  Sure enough as he is right in front of me my radio makes some noise.  I push it against my chest to try and muffle it, and the bobcat stares me down, looking me right in the eyes.  Really an eerie feeling having an animal right there staring at you that close.  He kept moving his head up and down and he gave me the once over, then he decided I wasnt any thing to worry about and started walking away.  As soon as his head turned I reached for my gun, and shot him at 11 yards.  He didnt know what hit him.  It's the first bobcat I have ever seen, and I was, and still am for that matter, really excited.  Who cares about deer anyways  :dunno:

Really an eerie feeling having an animal right there staring at you that close.

It's far more intense when it's a cougar. Been there.  :yike:
