Best place/priced alfalfa
Quackaddict:
Looking for recommendations for fine stemmed good quality alfalfa for my horses. Willing to travel for good price. Need 3 tons for winter. Thanks in advance
nwwanderer:
Small bales will be at a $40+/ ton premium, big squares are the norm now days. The trades were at $140 last week in the basin. Check your critters requirements and use. That kind of nutrition can raise havoc with an equine.
Gringo31:
Agree, wouldn't be buying "good quality" alfalfa.
Stay with the grass hay or blends. :twocents:
eastsidemallard74:
Check Moses lake craigslist, always on sale out here. A lot of alfalfa fields
PolarBear:
Where are you located on the wet side? I quit feeding my horses and cows alfalfa a few years ago and went to high quality grass hay. They all get a little grain along with the hay and seem to do as well if not better. When I did feed alfalfa I bought it at Kipert's in Tumwater. The second weekend of September they have a big sale and good quality alfalfa that usually goes for $16.99 is on sale for $12.99. We would buy 5 tons and be done for the winter. Kipert's has always had better alfalfa than Del's/Tractor supply, Wilco and just about all of the little local guys, Every now and then they use to get in 3 strand bales that are around 160-180 pounds with super fine stems and leaves as big as red clover.
