late buck, west shelton matlock road
« on: November 08, 2017, 11:36:41 AM »
need a little help, i haven't hunted deer on the wet side in at least 10 years, when i was a kid we used to hunt off west shelton matlock road, i remember reading that currently only one side of the road is open to public hunting and the other requires a timber permit. if i remember correctly its the right side of the road that is still open to the public. i cant find anything in the regs to confirm this, and was really hoping to take my 6 year old step son out for his first hunt, so if anyone could point me in the direction of where i could find concrete information on this i would greatly appreciate it

This is the map off their website, shows the permit required area, maybe this will help you figure out where to not try to go...

Highly recommend the ONX MAPS for boundaries.  I bought a card for my Garmin GPS from Sportsman's Warehouse for $108.00 specifically for Washington State. You can also get a free weeks trial from ONX MAPS,  good luck!

The right side of the road is open unless you turn around then it's the left side that is open.  :chuckle:

Just messing with you, hopefully the above map helps and you can get your step son out in the woods.  Good luck.

For 110.00 you can import it into Garmin Basecamp (free desktop program), and upload it into your handheld, using the desktop to track and add waypoints and tracks. It's a great tool for planning, especially scouting new areas.

I have bought the Green Diamond walk in permit for that area the last three years. Didn't this year. Used Forest Service and DNR land, seeing about the same amount of wildlife. There are some great spots in there.

...or you can hunt the Green Diamond and DNR land between Allyn and Shelton and/or the Tahuya State Forest and not worry about which area is open at all.   :twocents:
