Question about fur prices? Taxidermy prepped!
« on: January 03, 2018, 10:46:45 AM »
My dad and I are doing pretty good on cats this season in NE WA up along the Canadian boarder and they are SUPER spotted with nice belly fur and overall great color. No red to the pelts and they are HUGE. I'm having them skinned by a local taxidermist so they are prepped and ready for taxidermy including dimensions and fleshed. Its the same person I personally am having two cat mounts done with so I know they do a great job.

MY QUESTION: I'm going to be selling the cats on taxidermy.net and I'm wondering what is a good asking price for this season for a cat that is prepped like this?

Thanks!

I would think the local taxidermist that you are using should be able to tell ya a price since a varys from cat to cat

How much are you hoping to get?  Maybe someone on HW would be interested?

I listed that guy on taxidermy.net for $400. Id give to someone on HuntWA for $300. I have $60 into him getting taxidermy prepped.

Search the archives on Taxi.net. It will help give you an idea. Personally I think you are low for that kind of cat. It seems to me good cats that will bring a high price on the fur market go begging on taxi.net. There are always red or narrow belly cats on there and people are too cheap to pony up for a top of the line cat.

$300 is cheap for a prepped cat like that especially if it’s 30+ pounds which I can’t tell by the picture. Have you checked with Moscow hide and fur on their auction site?

Thanks for the info guys. I put him at $400 on Taxi.net and I'm getting several people who are very interested. I probable put him to low but just getting back into the game of actually selling my fur. Not many more open spots on my walls for mounts or tanned hides  :chuckle:

And I will call the auction house in Moscow. That is a great idea!

Wow that's a pretty cat!  I've never killed one with such nice spots over the back.

You might want to check with George Brady over your way or jump over into Idaho and check with Bruce Bartow both of these guys are Fur Buyers.
Another one to check in with that "buys a lot of cats" is John Hughs over in Montana too.

I took the liberty of showing the pictures of that cat on another forum to some fur buyers.
They said it was good cat for the Taxi market. Might be you guys did the best thing with that cat.
