Lake Ozette to Sand Point
« on: November 28, 2017, 06:59:36 PM »
My two daughters and I decided that we would go for another Thanksgiving weekend hike on the Washington coast. They wanted to go back to Sand Point so at 9:15 am Thanksgiving morning we were at the trailhead ready to go. The hike to Sand Point is on cedar boardwalk for about 3 miles with some gravel spots to walk on. The weather was wind and rain for the first 2.5 miles and as we got close to the campground we could see blue sky's thru the trees and hear a pair of bald eagles talking. We found a good spot to set up camp at 11:30 am and by 1:00 pm we had camp set up for the weekend. For the first day we just played on the beach by camp and checked out the areas south of camp and to the north just past Sand Point. This afternoon  would be the only dry day on the coast. It was very nice to hear the very loud surf and watch the sun set.

Excellent.   I bet it’s less crowded now than in July

Day two we went north to see the Wedding Rocks and the petroglyph's in the area. We saw a bunch of birds and saw 2 sets of bear tracks in the sand that was from a sow and her cub. We do not think it was from the same bear. We saw some seals and got to play on the rocks and climb a rope ladder to get around a cliff that we could not get around because of the tide.

Day 3 we went south to get to the Yellow Banks. We needed to beat the tide and we got a late start so we got down to some of the rock points that we needed to get around while the tide was just starting to turn and got to the hole in the wall for the beach to Yellow banks. We did not spend as much time at the banks as we would like but it was still good to see the beach and it will give us a reason to come back later.
