2018 Multi-season Elk permit, Who's putting in. I am!
« on: November 30, 2017, 11:29:29 AM »
who what when where and why.
For me it's because I have experience with all the weapons and would love the oppertuninty to really hunt the entire season. plus no pressure to take the first legal animal. Would be awesome to hunt the land and the animals
from September to December. Also the opportunity to put in for all weapons on My special permits. Goodness!
Please baby Jesus pull My name.

Like every year, me, my wife, and dad will put in.  We have all drawn once and all harvested west side bulls.  That extra time in the woods really helps us be successful.

I put in for a point most years. I think I have 6 points now. Thinking of continuing with the point option for now. Might save up my points for another 10 years or so and then try to draw, after I'm retired (hopefully.)  I just don't see myself having the time right now to dedicate to a $180 resident elk tag.

We are pretty limited to weekends only with maybe an additional day here or there.  Still tagged out...

I think I've got 5 points. I'll do the point option this year again.

I hunted the first 7 days of the rifle season (westside) and did NOT tag out. So, you're either a better hunter than me, or have a better spot, or probably both.  I can save $180 and get the same results.  LOL

I'll likely be ghost pointing next year, looking at out of state options for 2018. I'd hate to burn an MS elk tag when I've committed time and money to an out of state hunt, especially considering how hard they are to get.

Pretty sure it added up to more than 7 days this year.  My wife and dad both had tags.  We hunted a couple weekends of archery, 3 or 4 days muzzy, couple days of rifle, and day of late muzzy.  I got one during early muzzy (no multi tag), my wife got one the last weekend of rifle, and my dad got one the first day we hunted late muzzy.  Lots of time and effort and some scouting thrown in on top, but most of it during the weekends.

I should also say I'm not deciding on anything until I see what the new hunting seasons will be for next year (actually the next 3 years.) Too many unknowns at this point for me to decide whether I want to do archery, muzzleloader, or rifle for elk, or if I want to try to draw the multi-season. Any of those four choices is a possibility, but if I had to decide right now I'd probably buy the modern tag, put in for a good quality permit, and if I don't draw, I'd either not hunt elk at all, or possibly just go the first day and call it a season.

I'm not. Between paying for an access permit and a multi-season tag, I can buy a non res tag in a State that gives you all kinds of access and opportunity. My money is going out of state next year. I'm not supporting the status quo in this state any more.

I like all the people moving to hunt out of state. More for Me, (in a nice way)  :hello:
I have hunted Here since I was 10, 30years of the same hills and valleys. It's where I grew up and it's where I will continue to hunt. I get that it sucks in many areas and that the wdfw has mismanaged it. But it's still My first woods. The woods I hunted when I still got scared of the dark and thought that a cougar or bear was going to eat Me. LOL
I would love to try out of state some day but will never give up on the Washington Hunting I grew up on.

The biggest benefit I've seen is getting to hunt the same elk all season (assuming you can hunt the same unit).  You can figure out what they do and where they should be.  If you don't tag out, you can come back in 2 weeks and pickup where you left off.  The way its worked out, we've ended up killing elk the same areas (down to the clearcut) that we had been on elk during prior seasons.
