An Old Warrior
« on: December 05, 2017, 07:03:40 PM »
Come to realize after buying my property in 2015, that elk, specifically bulls, winter on my place.  Talking to a neighbor it has been that way ever since he has resided in the area for the past 26 years.

Couple bulls showed up last night and then again this afternoon.  This guy appears to have been around for the block a few times.

That'd be awesome to have a backyard with wintering big bulls year after year. That would never get old and be nice to see the progression and regression.

Same bull...last night and this afternoon.  Here's one of the others that was with him.

Do they stay there till their antlers drop off? Those sheds would be cool to pick up!

Yes, hstorically for the most part, on me or adjacent property.  However they spend most of the time on me.   Last year some still packing mid March...see first picture, one with and one without.  They (12-14 bulls) stayed well into April as second photo shows new growth energing.   Last photo shows cows and perhaps a calf or two late June last year.
