Last day, last light... no slivers slung!
« on: December 31, 2017, 08:14:51 PM »
Now that the season is done I can spend this whole year learning and scouting! I am in no way upset eating this tag as it was my first ever hunting license and I didn't even purchase it until Dec 4th. I wanted to make sure I had put in the time with the bow and was confident that I would be able to make ethical shots prior to buying a tag. I learned a ton just being out in the woods and putting boots to ground! I didn't feel right jumping on a forum like this and asking a bunch of questions while the season was going on, but now that she's over, I hope to learn more and share anything I can. If anyone can use some off shore fishing advice, I happen to know a guy who spends most of the summer running out of westport!

The last two weeks I have found a bunch of great looking areas in gmu 627, definitely a few starting points for next season! Two good lessons: #1 bringing the mountain bike for logging roads drastically cuts down on the hike in time when you are going 2 1/2 miles back! (Just figured this one out today!) And #2 crossing 3/4 mile of freshly logged ground in an attempt to take a shortcut is a bad idea and probably a good way to end up with a broken ankle!

Here is a pic from tonight's dinner!
Humbled and can't wait for more.

Welcome to the hunting community!!! Two great lessons, the latter may save your life around here!! Eating tags is part of the experience that makes success so much sweeter. Again, welcome :hello: and Happy New Year!!!

Ha!  Love the photo!   :chuckle:

Valuable lessons learned.  Once the clearcuts get some age to them, the animal trails will show you the way to get across with less effort, noise, and hazard, though in general it's preferable to stay hidden inside the edges.

I got skunked, too. Hunted around here as hard as I could. I saw deer, but didn't get any shot opportunities. Try again next year. For now, though, on to fishing!
