What lab breeders should I check out?
« on: January 06, 2018, 08:08:04 AM »
I want to get a puppy. Not immediately but want to start looking. The dog will hunt waterfowl and upland. I don’t need top bloodlines and won’t do trials, but I want a good dog. This will be a family dog that hunts a lot.  What are your suggestions?

I got an Ireland Farms Lab Christmas 2016. Pretty happy with him. Great family dog and fit right in with my older lab. I would get another from them.

I'm I  the same situation of starting to look for a pup. We just put down our 14 year old female lab about a week before Christmas. We have a 9 year old male and I'm starting to think he needs a new companion, plus the wife and kids would love a new pup. From the research I have done, it appears most guys have nothing but good things to say about Wind River, Ireland Farms and Tiger Mountain. There maybe others, but I have kind of narrowed it down to one of these local breeders for our next pup. I am much like you in that I want a good family dog that hunts, but I won't be running trials.

Rocking M in Eatonville. Bryant and Cindy are great people and have some nice dogs. They always have a booth with a few pups and the Puyallup Sportsmans show. You can buy them as pups or have Bryant train for a while then pick up ready to hunt.

I got Maggie at Cougar Creek Labs in Arlington 10 years ago and she’s been a great dog. Mild mannered & great around the house, great with small kids but a fiend on the birds, ducks and pheasants. I’m thinking of going back ther this spring for another puppy.

Copperwood Kennels in Battleground. I got a pup from Matt, and I am very happy with him.

Morgans Point

I got a pup from them last year and he is a hunting machine on land and water. I do a lot of upland hunting and he has been great for that as he will bust through the thick cover that the pointers want to go around. Also one of the nicest family dogs I have ever known. He takes to training well and learns fast. I definitely recommend checking them out.

I just put a deposit down for a pup from Lee Salmon at Wind River Labs. Have always heard great things about her dogs.  She has four litters dropping in February.  One all choc, one all yellow and the other two mixed blacks and yellows.  The litter I am getting my pup from may throw some pointing labs.  While that is certainly not a criteria for me to pull the trigger, it would be a fun plus to have a PL.  I hunt very little upland...for now.  Possibly more if I had a PL.  This pup will primarily be a waterfowling dog.

Which litter? I've thought about putting a deposit on one of Whiskey and Blue's pups.
