I just read somewhere that the new #2 Boone and Crockett bighorn sheep was one that was found dead in Montana. What's the difference between it and a dead deer?
Is it that the guy is saying he killed it and trying to take all the glory for it?

Montana allows dead heads to be picked up, sheep you have to get sealed the way I understand it. If PA is a state that doesn't allow dead heads to be picked up that might be the reason for all the concern.

Sounds like a bunch of jealous bums.

:yeah:He said he shot the deer with a bow and tracked the blood trail but lost it. He obviously would remember what the buck looked like since its a giant. Good on him for keeping up the search and finally recovering it. Wouldn't it still be a record if it was a dead head anyways? Washington is the only state I know of where you cant pick up antlers from a dead deer. The guy got a huge buck good for him why are the other guys even wasting time and energy on it? Jealousy

Utah too, and there is probably others.
New Mexico as well.   They will let you keep them, but you need to have it approved by an agent before taking possession.

I thought the controversy was he was claiming it as an archery kill.

? I see heads that have been on someone's wall for years brought to the gun shows to be scored... maybe even generations ago taken..  :dunno:

different from some moneybags paying 10K to hunt game like this on private land?

things are so questionable now days what really matters? The head is the head, biggest in PA still stands, regardless of situation.. great find!

“A representative of the Game Commission said Shaulis did nothing illegal.”

:dunno: maybe I am missing the reason for all the complaining?

There are a lot of hunters who have been in this situation before.  Tough conditions for tracking, little or no blood, and no friends to help tack, but you are confident you made a good shot and keep looking. Sometimes it works out and you find it, sometimes you find it after the meat is spoiled.  Still doesn't mean you didn't kill it.  That dork with the glasses on obviously hasn't been around much, wounded animals can go a hell of a long way even with a lethal shot.  It looked like a very brushy area in the video, a deer going 1000 yds and leaving no blood trail can be impossible to find.

:yeah: I agree. In the right terrain a hundred yards can take along time to comb.

Congratz to the hunter. While it may be difficult to say with 100 hundred percent certainty that it died from the wound inflicted by the arrow,  based on body decomposition,  and the fact it was in the area it certainly doesnt seem far fetched in any way.  It seems like he truly kept hunting only this buck. He didn't waste a deer. I am sure he wishes it was a cleaner kill, but I can applaude the effort.

Heck, I found one of my bucks a year later 1/2 mile from where I shot it. What's the big deal. If he is lying he's the one who will carry that burden...That will wear him down...I hope he did kill it. Awesome buck.

There is always a reason every new record must have been illegal! I say leave the guy alone unless F&G finds something he did wrong.

Product endorsement.
