Stinky Euro
« on: February 10, 2018, 08:42:27 AM »
Got my European mount back with intentions of hanging in the house and it's pretty ripe first time i've had one done just curious if there are any tricks or tips for getting the smell out of it so it can come in the house currently hanging outside doesn't appear to be any flesh on it although it's mounted on a plaque so hard to see into the brain cavity thanks for any advice

yea done by a taxidermist he uses the boil and pressure wash method not sure if it just needs to finish drying and will get better in time or if there is something i can do to speed up the process

The boil and pressure wash method isn’t really a method I’d expect to see professional taxidermists using to do a euro mount. Did he de-grease the skull?

What taxidermist?

Sounds to me like they didn't get the insides of the skull completely cleaned out.  I've used maceration to clean several skulls and they usually are pretty stinky until you degrease and whiten.  I did have some issues with the antlers themselves stinking because they had absorbed some of the maceration water.  I soaked the entire skull/antlers in an oxyclean solution.  It cut the stink down and didn't hurt or discolor the antlers.  You might give that a try.  I would test a little bit on the antlers in an inconspicuous spot to make sure whatever you are using doesn't discolor (bleach) the antlers.

You did not get a euro mount. You got a boiled skull, big difference
