Annoying AR spring twang -
« on: February 19, 2018, 12:50:20 PM »
There are several things that make it so I’m not a big fan of shooting ARs.  This spring noise right by my ear is probably at the top of the list.

Any way to get rid this or at least quiet it down?

Jp silent captured spring. No twang. I have one in a 6.8 spc

White lithium grease on your spring can help.
And if your buffer weight has a rattle ball in it, ditch it for a better one.

Just took it out and gave it a shake; sounds like a rattlesnake.

This was my number one complaint with the AR platform for years! I don't think you can really make it go away but you can make in manageable. The right spring and buffer will make a huge difference but the biggest improvement I noticed was with with an adjustable gas block. Get it tuned so you have just enough gas coming back to make the action cycle reliably but not enough to send whole BCG slamming back like a hammer.

I had and adjustable gas block on my 6.5 BRX and 270 AR uppers and I loved them. When I went and shot a 5.56 upper with a fixed gas block I was reminded why I hated ARs for so long. :twocents:

I use Enidine's. Along with a quality adjustable gas block. Get rid of that slamming screen door under your cheek, adjust the gas block and ruduce excess bolt thrust along with a quality compensator and a AR will shoot so soft and smooth you will want to take it on a date.💞❤️💓💕
