Sherman spring bear
« on: March 19, 2018, 11:05:31 AM »
So I drew the Sherman spring bear tag. I have a few friends I will be getting info from but figured I'd throw a post out and see if I can get more info. I figured the more info I have the better! The biggest thing I'm looking for is guys that have had the tag in the past and what they learned as far as timing with snow levels and all that. I have connections and places to stay from both the republic side and the kettle side of the unit. So I can work the unit from pretty much any angle I need too. I'm hoping with the info I get from the friends in the area will be enough but figured if I can can more from you guys why not!! Looking at probably trying for late April to early May for my first hunt due to what I've read about snow levels and bear movement. Thanks in advance for any info and hopefully I can post a pic of a big bear here in a few months!!!

I had a permit last year and didn't hunt until Memorial Day weekend. My friends in the area didn't see much bear activity until mid May.

You will probably have to hunt low elevation if you go that early, still lots of snow up high.

Yea that's kind of my thought also is have them tell me when the activity picks up. But really don't think I'll be able to keep from going just wanting to get out into the woods. I've never hunted bear due to other big game hunting so I'm kind of over the top excited!!!

I allotted five days last year. It took me five minutes to fill the tag. Kind of spoiled my fun.  :chuckle:

I would guess Memorial Day weekend based on his previous post.

I will be hunting over there as well and probably won’t head out to hunt until the last part of May. Send me a PM when you head out and we can compare notes. Good luck!

May/June is the best time.  I really like the areas that burned in 2015 from Stickpin to the Canadian Border.  There is all sorts of great open bear country .
