Kelly Hill. Hunting
« on: March 21, 2018, 04:03:28 PM »
It's a days drive just to get there, so I'm getting ready for the long haul.  Dismantled and cleaned the bolt in my light gun (Savage 300WSM) that failed me with a misfire :yike: during deer season.  :bash:  Tested good on a few primed casings.  Got the big guns out today and dialed in at 100 yards in the yard before it started raining.   Might have to find a Sherpa to pack the 340wby :bfg: if I decide to use it.  Barnes 185gr TTSX @ 3276fps good enough?.  7mm will be on board for backup.   Longer range target practice waiting for another sunny day.   All this talk about snow and waiting untill after the middle of May is getting me down.  That's why I'll put the fishing poles and turkey gun in.  It's all good.  I've got a chance at getting my first spring bear and turkey.  Stop by and share :fire.: :brew:

Good luck and safe travels.  That's a long haul.  There is no shortage of turkeys out there.

Stay to the river side of the unit at first.  The bears are always out on those slopes chasing green grass. That area is two weeks ahead of the rest of the unit.  Lots of private so do your homework.

Anybody tell me how good my AT&T coverage will be?  Service not bad in the Okanogan, hoping same in Kelly Hill area.  I've got the onXmaps, if I have reasonable coverage.  AT&T was mostly nonexistent in the SE corner.  If not I'll go back to my paper maps.  Permit came in mail today, so I  guess it's real.   :)  Started loading some Berger 168gr VLD's for the 7mm today, but battery was dead in my calipers.  :bash:

Download the maps of areas you may want to hunt prior to going into those areas. Then you don't need cell coverage.

AT&T works just fine.  There are a few dead zones.

I'm getting a pretty good handle on property boundaries.  Are the private timber lands open?  Hancock, Vaagen, Golden Pond, Inland Empire?

Yes those are the main timber companies in our area.  Vaagens is the only one of those that doesn't give general permission to their lands.  The rest of them you can hunt.  The Inland Empire Paper lands require a permit which you can buy online.  Keep up the good work and you will do fine.

Good luck neighbor!

Thanks.  Getting antsy.  Won't make opener with Easter for the grandkids, and April Fools for everyone else.  All this talk about bears out it's hard to hold back.  Got the 7mm dialed in with Berger VLD's.   :hunter:
:camp:  :fishin:  Going to be like elk hunting, only relaxing.

Yep, same here. Easter week is a busy one. Hope to be over there by tuesday. Weather looks good over there so far but locals says roads are still nasty. We'll see. Pumped up!
