What's in your elk pack part 2 - Sleep System
« on: April 20, 2018, 02:49:03 PM »
Lets roll with part 2 of this super awesome series of threads on whats in your elk pack.  What do you cats have in your elk pack for a sleep system?  For the purpose of these threads, lets assume were talking about pack in hunts.

I carry the following:

Tent Nemo Hornet 2 Person w/footprint
Bag VIAM Outdoors 10 degree quilt
Pad Klymit Insulated Static V
Pillow Klymit (cant remember the style/name)

Chair (if Im feeling energetic) Wildhorn Terralite
Cot (if Im feeling really energetic) Desert Walker Outdoor UL

I may end up packing in my Luxe Megahorn Tipi this year so hunting partner and I can camp/hunt in style (and have a bit more protection against the late September Idaho wilderness area weather).  Of course with the Tipi goes the Lite Outdoors Titanium stove.

Well, what's in your elk pack for a sleep system?

Cheap 1" roll sleep pad.  Sunbirds sleeping bag to 40 degree.  Tent, tarp.  Protection from the boogeyman.  Flashlight.  Pack for pillow.  Should be good eh?

Camofire tarp, or my old no name "two man" tent.  (That only one man fits in).  Wiggys bag and pad.

Shelter:  Either Big Agnes FlyCreek UL 3, or Seek Outside tipi w/stove.  Depends on season and weather.
Sleeping Bag:  Feathered Friends, 20 degree rating
Pad:  Thermarest NeoAir
Cot:  Thermarest Ultralite....depends on length of trip.
Pillow:  Sea to summit

I'll sometimes pack up a chair as well, have a variety of backpacking chairs from REI.

Shelter:  20 year old North face 2p
Sleeping Bag:  Mountain Hardware 0 degree or 30 degree
Pad:  Big Agnes Q Core
Pillow:  Sea to summit
I accept the weight penalty of the 2p tent because I like to keep my pack and bow secure inside the tent.

Shelters depend on weather and if I'm solo.  Tarp, badger hole, 4 man tipi or 8 man tipi.  If snakes, scorpions, or big scary spiders are an issue a eureka zeuss II.

Bag is most likely an EE enigma 0 quilt or a kifaru slik bag for hunts that may get real western.

Tyvek ground cloth always

Pad is currently a big Agnes q core SL but I'm sure by season that will change.

When needed an 18" kifaru Smith stove
