Multi Season vs Transport Tag Exchange
« on: April 28, 2018, 09:27:08 PM »

Hey kids,

Even as I post this, I feel silly. I know I must be missing something very obvious, but I can't make sense of it so I'm throwing it out to you. This is my  first year hunting Washington, so this may explain my confusion.

Is there a difference between a "tag" and a "transport tag"? If they're the same, then what purpose is served by the multi season tag? It seems, according to the regs, that I can chase elk with a bow until the early season is almost over, and if I'm unsuccessful, I can exchange it for muzzleloader and so on, as long as I make the exchanges prior to certain dates..

I've read elsewhere on this forum of folks not having time to hunt their originally designated seasons, and successfully exchanging their tags for the next season. So again, why the multi season draw?   :dunno:

Thanks in advance for your help and patience in explaining what I know must be painfully obvious.  :chuckle:

The deadline for exchanging an archery tag is August 30th.

I'm not sure why I couldn't see that. Thanks for cleaning my glasses for me. (goes back into hiding)  :chuckle:

Also, you cannot exchange a tag if you applied for special permit hunts, which I believe most people do.

From what I've gathered in other threads, this is true within the same species. So, if I've applied for a special deer, I can still make exchanges for elk and visa versa, but cannot in this example exchange my general deer tag.

Right.
