51 year old newbie
« on: May 09, 2018, 02:26:01 PM »
ok, went deer hunting last year for the first time and got hooked.  Just received a call yesterday from the WDFW and was told i was chosen for the deer incentive program for turning in my hunting report before 1/10.  Now reading through, i see if i hunt during a bow or muzzle loader season, that is what i need to use...i just own a modern rifle.  If you were me, how would you go about using this permit?  I live in Moses Lake, Wa. thanks for any input...very excited about the opportunity.  it was covered in a thread last year about going in december...just not sure.

Might be a good excuse to buy a muzzleloader.  Probably just skip achery.

Congrats on the permit. :brew:

I would just hunt with a rifle outside of any general seasons. With that tag, why compete with other hunters?

You're in Moses Lake? How about hunting GMU 290 from October 29 to November 9. You would have it to yourself except for the duck hunters. Even when the late permit season starts on November 10 there are only 5 permits so still not much competition. That permit ends on the 18th so you could have it to yourself again from the 19th to the 23rd. (Archery permit starts the 24th.)

Or you're not far from Entiat. There are only 18 permits for that unit November 1-20. You could hunt it then, or beginning December 1 after the archery season is over.

That they were very very  :sry:  ugh...still think they should honor it..not my error

Wow! Really sorry to hear that Mazanz1! You deserve something for their mistake! That is unforgivable and unbelievable! I think I would blow steam from my ears if WDFW did that to me. Shame on them!

How in the heck does one pull an incentive on their first year reporting :yike: Our wonderful game department finds a way to screw it up.

ok...thought i'd give an update on this.  I did call WDFW and explained the situation.  They do understand it was in the error and said they would make it right :yeah:.  Guess we will see it when we see it...i will start hiking around the desert unit, since it is in my home town, and just in case....

I hope you get a tag but my guess by "Making it right" they will probably give you some points to add onto a special draw like they do with points awarded to people who turn in and get poachers convicted. I doubt they will add a tag but I am hoping for you.....let us know what they do for you..........Good Luck.......Les

Looks like it went through.  I received notice and paid my $66.50.  They cashed the check and it now shows the incentive tag under my license....pretty stoked about it.

That is a great permit to get.  Congrats.
