Canadian Gobbler
« on: May 16, 2018, 12:59:00 PM »
One of the things I have always wanted to do is complete all the different types of turkey slams. Iíve done the WA mini slam several times, the grand slam, and the royal slam so far. I met another milestone this year with the North American turkey slam, which is a turkey harvested from all the countries in North America. Iíve known for quite some time that there are some good areas in BC that hold a lot of birds. I played with the idea of going up there for about 5 years and finally went and did it this year. BC introduced an online system this year, which made getting licenses and tags much easier. In the past I would have had to make a separate trip up before the season with all the appropriate documents to get an alien hunting license. To make a long story short, I drove up last weekend, got there in the evening and roosted some birds that were on public land. The morning hunt yielded a nice gobbler down within about 2 hours. It was a great time and hunt in beautiful British Columbia! 🇨🇦

Heck yeah...jeez you're not messing around with the turkeys!
Thanks for sharing and congrats!

That's pretty cool, were you required to go with a guide for turkey?

Turkeys are classified under Game birds/ small game in BC, meaning they can be hunted by non resident aliens without the use of a guide or mentor.

Congrats now you need to get the Canadian slam. A turkey from each of the provinces.which is on my list. I have to finish my world slam, and of course get my eastern to finish my WA slam which will make 15 years in a row, now with all three weapons.

@MerriamMagician: For future reference: Would this be the correct link to setup and purchase B.C. FWID and small game Species ID (Turkey Tag)?
https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/sports-culture/recreation/fishing-hunting/hunting/non-resident-hunting

Were you required to purchase the $30 WildLife Export/Transport Permit too?  Looks like applies to Big Game only ... but by Definition is close...
[... Export Wildlife Permit, which is required by individuals and organizations who are exporting live or dead wildlife, parts of wildlife or an egg(s) of a wildlife species out of British Columbia to other Canadian provinces or out of Canada  ...]

Congratulations on Your Success!
Thank You for Sharing your experience and any Help in Advance ... sounds like New Opportunity for a Great Adventure and Experience in B.C. ...
