300 BO Build *pics added*
« on: June 14, 2018, 10:38:50 AM »
So I wasn't planning on doing a 300BO AR but I got a free BHW barrel and had a bunch of spare parts lying around so why not. Problem is I don't know a lot about this thing in terms of buffer weights and what round to use for deer hunting. Its a 14.5" barrel with a carbine length gas system (carbine buffer maybe?), I was also thinking use 120 or 150gr bullets for hunting in Klickitat this year. Any help would be appreciated guys.

The 110 gr Barnes TAC-TX black tips get good reviews for hunting.  Have not shot anything with mine yet, but they have been very accurate for me.

I built a 300blk and used all the same parts one would use for a standard .556/.223 besides the barrel and it runs perfectly.

Should work great out to 150 or so.  I would avoid 150s as they won't expand at .300 BO velocities. As discussed the Barnes 110 works well. I shoot 125 TNTs out of mine. They blow up at .308 or faster velocities but work well in the .300 BO and are inexpensive.

Perfect guys that's what I was wondering. I have most of the parts I need, ordered a few I didn't have today (gunna give strike industries LPK a go). Ill try and have it done in the next couple weeks and get out and shoot it. Look like 110gr is popular so ill start there when it comes time to dial in the scope.

If you are planning on building a rifle you might want to look into the legality of things. With a 14.5” barrel you would be making an Short Barreled Rifle and that would require a tax stamp.

Not a big deal he can get a pistol brace or just have a muzzle device pinned and welded.

Got it all finished up last night! Not really impressed with the Strike Industries LPK but some of those parts are easy swaps. Should be a good shooter though!
