My 11 year old son drew the North Chelan Goat Tag.  Any information you can share would be greatly appreciated.

Wow!! Congrats on the draw for your son. Investing in an outfitter/transporter seems like the best idea if you can afford it. Please keep us posted how it goes. Could be the adventure of a lifetime for him.

rougheye....if you sent me one, I didn't get it...maybe try sending me another one? if you got the other tag, I've got some info for you. Same with whoever drew the sheep tags...I PM'd one of the tag holders back in June but never heard back from them...

Grade,

I received your PM.  Thank you.  I tried to PM you back, but it told me your mailbox was full?  Can you PM me a phone number where I can contact you?  Thanks again.

How far up north does that go? And what is the season?

My son drew this goat tag with 4 points.  Lucky little bugger!  I’m sure we’ve got our work cut out for us.  Leaning towards hunting the higher country closer to the Northern part of the unit.  Still researching and considered our available options.

@Brandone

Any update on this?

Thanks for checking in guys.  We've been having lots of fun chasing goats and dealing with a few unexpected bumps in the road.

Given the limited access and rugged terrain, I decided to book a fully guided mountain goat hunt for my son back in June with Early Winters Outfitters.  As it turns out, Early Winters was a real fiasco to work with.  They postponed my son's goat hunt the day before it was supposed to start, and then cancelled his hunt entirely about a week after that with no explanation whatsoever.  At the end of the day, it was probably for the best based upon their lack of follow through and accountability.  Needless to say, I would NOT recommend them to ANYONE.

However, we didn't let that get in our way.  We spent a couple long weekends chasing goats in the high country and enjoying some amazing country.  We located some goat in late September and early October, but unfortunately they were in areas that we could not physically get close enough to them for a shot, or retrieve them after a shot.  Most importantly, my son and I have been spending some incredible time together in the mountains making memories together, which I wouldn't trade for anything.

We are planning to spend another week chasing goats by boat from Lake Chelan during the last two weeks of November.  Hopefully the weather will move some goats down in elevation far enough that we can reach them by hiking up from the lake.  We'll see how it pans out.  No matter what, we are going to have fun making memories and trying to make it happen........ and we will probably catch a few trout just for good measure!  I will keep you posted!

Brandone,

Good luck in November

It aint no joke that Aaron at Early Winters is the most unreliable packer in the state. Its a shame because I like him and Quinn
The mountains are calling and I must go

After lots of patience, persistence and hard work, things finally came together and my 12 year old son Bridger made a 350 yard shot on an ancient old billy goat above the north shores of lake chelan.   I couldn't be more proud of this little bugger.  He worked hard, kept a positive attitude through the highs and lows of goat hunting and kept his cool when it mattered most.  The biologist aged the old billy at 10.5 - 11.5 year old.  He only has one tooth left in his front lower jaw.  He measures 9.5 inches with 5.5 inch bases.  We could not have dreamed of a better end to our mountain goat adventure!
