Sounds like a Rube Goldberg wildcat!

Great reference! That's essentially what this is, an over engineered attempt at duplicating a 257 Weatherby.

I ordered bullets and a barrel from Blackjack at the begging of July. I received a notification that my order was complete. Whatever that means, there was no shipping or tracking info. I knew when I ordered it was a pre-order deal so I have no problem with the delivery time. But I did what to get my hands on the 131gr "Ace" bullet.

I was thinking the same thing earlier today. I don't have a real plan for the barrel but I wouldn't mind getting a couple of the bullets to decide on the freebore for the reamer I'm making.

If it makes you feel better, I ordered one of the ARC Nucleus actions back in January and they had a mid April delivery date. I might see it by next April. It reminds me a lot of waiting for Benchmark Barrels to complete an order. :chuckle:

The X-Caliber 28”  #15 Heavy Varmint .257, 1-7 twist blank showed up today from BlackJack. Thought I knew what I was going to do with it. Guess I’m still kicking it around. Every time I think about the .25 Cal 131gr “ACE” bullet. I think “SPEED”.

I don’t think any chambering on a short action is going to get me where I want to be speed wise.

Hmmmmmm? Don’t know. I can’t do anything Yorke is thinking of or I would become his Hunt WA stalker. I already have one of those, just read any post of mine and my “Stalker” isn’t too far behind.

Hey Yorke! I’m already bored with this .416 Ruger. Got any cool trade fodder?👍 Almost smoked a coyote with it the other day. Open sights, 200 yards running. The bullet impact looked like a mortar round going off in the wheat field.

That’s a thought 13-14 years ago I was killing deer with a .257 Arnold Magnum, which is a .257-7mm Mag. If your going to run a long action, run a case with some capacity. I believe Pac-Nor has a reamer for the .257/25-.300 Win Mag. I can’t stand the Weatherby double radius shoulder or their freebore. :puke:

What are you speed goals for the 131?

My Sendero profile barrel showed up today too. I'm in the same boat though, thought I knew what I wanted but now I'm not sure. I have a push feed Model 70 short action that I planned to use for my 257 BS (Boondoggle Short) but now I'm trying to decide whether to go for all out speed or maybe something a little slower and use it as a small bore plinker. I'd suggest a 257 Badger but I think you'd turn those 131gr bullets inside out from a 1-7" twist barrel at those speeds. The guys at Black Jack seem a little concerned about their bullets holding together over out of a 7" twist barrel at over 3200 fps. The 128gr Hammer Hunter will hold together though!

Let me see what I can dig up in trade vault for the 416. It would make a nice companion for my 375 Ruger. I actually snapped a shot at a young coyote with the 375 and a 275gr Sledge Hammer a couple nights ago while bear hunting. It was a little farther than I thought and the coyote was a little smaller than I thought so I went just over the top of him and gave him a hair cut. I really wanted see how the bullet performed. :chuckle:

As fast as it will go on a magnum long action. My only concern is that the throat lasts more than 200 rounds.

.25 PRC
.25 Nosler
.25-300 Win Mag Improved
.25-STW

And the list goes on. Yorke hogged up the Ruger case.

The over 3200 the killer. Guess I’ll have to break the bad “Speed” habit in this case. Back in the mid 80’s I had a “Smith Rifles” Custom 25-284 and I really enjoyed the performance of the chambering.

On a side note. 1000, 185gr Nosler 7mm RDF’s were delivered today. Here’s a comparison side by side with the 177gr Hammer Hunters. If I recall correctly. Hammer bullets modeled the bullets size of their 177 to the size of the Berger 195 EOL.

185gr RDF (Left)
177gr Hammer Hunter (Right)

Oh. And a little something to frost the next project with.😊 Complimets of :

I was gonna suggest a 25 prc due to that 7 twist. But a 25 nosler would be pretty bitchin, if it would hold together!
